Avgi Chrysostomou Lapathiotis

    Avgi Chrysostomou Lapathiotis graduated from the National and Kapodistrian University in Athens with a Bachelor of Science degree (BSc) in Economics with a scholarship.  Subsequently, she completed a Master of Science degree (MSc) in Business Finance from Brunel University UK.

    She joined the Ministry of Finance, where she worked for almost all of her career.  Currently she is the Director of the Financial Services Directorate of the Ministry of Finance being responsible for the formulation and implementation of policies for the financial sector, in collaboration and coordination with the supervisory authorities and the hierarchy of the Ministry of Finance.  This involves the handling of the whole regulatory spectrum of the economy’s financial sector, i.e. banking, capital markets and the insurance sector, striving for its alignment with the EU acquis Communautaire, but also to suggest and implement national policies for its modernisation, development and enhancement according to best practices. The ultimate objective is to continuously monitor the financial sector infrastructure and contribute, towards its development but also ensure financial stability.

    She represents the Ministry of Finance in the Financial Services Committee (FSC) of the European Council which is a European policy body for the financial sector. She also serves as a member of the Administrative Committee for the Investor Compensation Fund, for Cyprus’ Investment Firms.
