George Louka

    George Louca, Director of the Road Transport Department

    Mr George Louca was appointed Director of the Road Transport Department in 2024. He was originally appointed to the civil service as a mechanical engineer in the Department of Electromechanical Services of the Ministry of Transport, Communications & Works. During his term, he worked closely on several road transportation issues. During his career in the Department of Electromechanical Services, he was involved in licensing of vehicle technicians and issuing licenses for tachograph cards.

    Mr. Louca also worked on the preparation of the Grant Scheme for the installation of electric vehicle charging points, dealt with government vehicle maintenance issues and participated, from time to time, on the Road Safety Council.

    He served in the European Affairs Unit of the Ministry of Transport, Communications & Works in preparation for the Cyprus Presidency of the European Union in 2012, where he was responsible for the coordination of land transport and trans-European transport network issues. Also, during the Cyprus Presidency, he worked in the Permanent Representation of Cyprus in Brussels, as Transport Attaché of the Working Group on Land Transport, with the main focus on the amendment of legislation on the technical inspection of motor vehicles and tachographs.
