
Mr Stavros Stavrinos was born in Nicosia in 1965. He studied at the Higher Technical Institute in Cyprus (1982-1985) and received the diploma of Technician Engineer in Electrical Engineering. In 1989 he received the B.Eng (Hons) degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Salford, UK. In 1990 he received the M.Sc. Degree in Telecommunications and Information Systems from Essex University, UK.
He worked at the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) from 1992 as an Electrical Engineer. From 1992 to 1994 he worked in the Forward Planning Department of EAC. Then he was transferred to the System Operation Department of EAC where he was actively involved in a complex project of establishing a modern National Energy Control Centre in Cyprus. The project included the implementation of a Supervisory Control and data Acquisition/Energy Management System (SCADA/EMS) and the National Energy Control Centre operated in Autumn 1997. From 1997 to 2016 he was responsible for the maintenance, support and upgrade of the SCADA/EMS and other infrastructure of the National Energy Control Centre and the four regional Control Centers.
In 2004 he was transferred in the newly established Transmission System Operator Cyprus (TSOC) and in 2008 he was promoted to the position of Assistant manager in the System Operation Department. During his service at the TSOC, he was engaged in a wide range of activities both in Power System Planning and Operation. He also represented the TSOC in several ENTSO-E committees.
In January 2017 he was transferred to the Distribution System Operator (DSO-EAC) where he worked as the head of the System Operation Section. He was appointed as the Project Manager for the project of establishing a modern National Distribution Control Centre that included the installation of a Distribution Management System (SCADA/DMS). He was also engaged in several technology projects of the DSO.
In December 2020 he was appointed as the Executive Director of the Transmission System Operator Cyprus.
